HARMAN Phoenix is back with a brand-new formulation! Still full of character but now with improved contrast, grain, highlight / shadow retention, and sharpness.• DX coded to ISO 200 – best results between 100-200• C41 processing (but why not experiment in E6 or ECN-2 as well)!
HARMAN Phoenix II is 2nd generation colour film and is very different from the original.Each layer and component has been redesigned and reengineered into a completely new formulation. New dyes, couplers, and even an experimental layer construct!Less bold and unpredictable than the original, Phoenix II still offers plenty of character for a truly analogue look.
The film is consistent with 35mm emulsion i.e. experimental and therefore has somequirky characteristics:• High contrast with strong, visible grain• The larger 120 negatives offer much more detail than a 35mm neg.• Getting exposure right is still important for the best results!• ISO 200 – but many say best results around ISO 100 (overexpose by 1 stop and process as standard)• Because halation in the highlights is better than mucky shadows!• It performs best in constant, even light and scenes.• But if in doubt, meter for the mid tones or bracket exposures.• It has some quirky colours – these are impacted by exposure and/or scanning• Digital camera scanning gives the best results.• The film also benefits from a good lens on your camera (the contrast exacerbates vignetting)• Standard C41 Processing although people are experimenting with E6!
HARMAN RED’s tonal style varies significantly based on your exposure:
Underexposed shots result in more intense reds, a higher grain, and more pronounced shadows.
Normal exposure shots result in rich orange tones, a softer, more neutral grain, and subtle shadows.
Overexposed shots result in varied tones with hints of green, a brighter and higher contrast, with a finer grain.
For the best results, shooting between ISO 100 and 200 is highly recommended however, the HARMAN RED 125 film offers a flexible exposure range, allowing you to shoot anywhere between ISO 50 and 400, giving you full creative control.
